BEAN PROFILE - TANZANIAN PEABERRY

BEAN PROFILE - TANZANIAN PEABERRY

ONE HALF OF OUR FAVOURITE

Making up one half of the perfect pairing, we use the Tanzanian Peaberry in our Signature Blend - THE ONE. It is roasted to medium and mixed with Ethipian Yirgacheffe.

WHAT IS A PEABERRY

A typical coffee cherry has two seeds, identical in size. But, due to a natural mutation, in about 5-10% of the harvest you will find extra space created on one side and just one larger seed forms. This larger bean is a peaberry, and it is separated during the harvest.

They are highly sought after and are considered to have superior cupping profile when compared to typical beans.

ORIGINS OF OUR BEAN

This Tanzanian Peaberry is grown on the backside of Mount Kilimanjaro at an elevation of 4,500-6,000 feet.

This bean originates from the Nitin Estate, owned by the Suhdir family and is located in the Ngorongoro Area, about 120 miles from Arusha town. The farm borders on the game reserve and elephants are a frequent guest. This specialty coffee comes from the newer planting blocks that were planted five years ago.

The coffee boasts flavour notes of chocolate with a rich base, hints of citrus fruits, and floral notes.
